To become an LMHC in Florida, you must:
- Complete at least 11 Board-approved graduate-level courses
- Complete a 700-hour supervised practicum/internship, with 280 hours of direct clinical contact
- Apply to become a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern (RMHCI)
- Complete 2 years (100 weeks) of post-master’s clinical supervision
- Submit your final documentation to apply for full LMHC licensure

- Weekly individual or triadic supervision
- Exposure to professional activities (recordkeeping, supervision, staff meetings, etc.)
- Evaluations throughout and at the end of the experience
- Use of audio/video recordings or live supervision when applicable

🧭 Step-by-Step to LMFT Licensure in Florida
To become a Registered Marriage and Family Therapy Intern (RMFTI) in Florida, and later a fully licensed LMFT, you must:
- Earn a qualifying master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy or a closely related field
- Complete 11 Board-required graduate-level courses
- Complete a supervised practicum with 400 total hours (300 direct client + 200 relational hours)
- Submit your application and become a Registered Intern (RMFTI)
- Complete 2 years of post-master’s clinical supervision
- Apply for full licensure with completed documentation

When does my supervision officially begin?
Your supervision officially begins on the date listed in the Florida Board’s letter approving your Qualified Supervisor.
Do I need to attend supervision even if I don’t have clients yet?
Yes. Supervision is required weekly regardless of current caseload. Sessions focus on ethics, clinical prep, documentation, licensure steps, and professional development.
What are the minimum requirements for licensure in Florida?
To qualify for full licensure (LMHC, LCSW, LMFT), you must complete:
- 100 weeks of supervision
- 100 supervision hours
- 1,500 hours of direct client services

When does supervision end?
